Our Fave stars and their demands

In this issue, we will be going over some of our fave stars and their demands. Wether them being huge or small whims, stars have a tendency to sometimes go overboard. What about you ? If you were famous, would you be as demanding ?

    MARIAH CAREY

Having spent 2000 euros for her dog to travel first class, Mariah Carey has been pulling all the strings to satisfy her love for romance. She demanded red carpet and candles at the entrance of a London hotel where she was staying. The decoration was not totally completed upon arrival, she patiently waited until everything was ready riding the limousine around the property.

    JENNIFER LOPEZ

Jennifer Lopez likes to surround herself with white. Invited to the show "Top of The Pops", she stayed at the Crillon hotel and asked to be surrounded by white orchids, which had to be replaced twice daily. The diva arrived with more than 2 hours late to the rehearsal, and threatened to cancel her participation to the show because of ...the colour of her dressing room and the absence of white lilies.

    DESTINY'S CHILD

At the top of their careers, the three singers didn't feel ashamed to ask for fine dishes from China,  very soft black towels, Ivory soap bars, as well as multiple sets of flowers and strawberry scented candles in their hotel room.

    BRITNEY SPEARS

For the star, even airplanes must correspond to her demands. Upon boarding a flight from Los Angeles to Miami, she got off her seat because it was not leather! The star demanded to get off the plane which resulted in a flight delay. In the end, she opted for a private jet.

    MICHAEL JACKSON

When he doesn't reserve the Tokyo Disneyland for the night, he also likes has very strange demands: jars filled with candies, xylophones, giant mirrors...

    MADONNA

She still requires three candles to ward off the negative vibrations and evil spirits, and a relaxing "lavender and Chamomile" foot bath ," Her dressing room must be covered with white sheets and white roses, symbolic color of the "Kabbalah" which she is a member of.  Terrified by bacterias, the pop star goes as far as to ask new toilet seats at each concert.

    MISS DOMINIQUE

Even if she's barely known, the finalist of "La Nouvelle star" (equivalent to "American Idol" in France) has claimed to be surrounded by tap dancers for her next show.  What she did not understand is that only big stars can afford to see their wishes realized. When Managers refused to fill in her request, the young woman reportedly left the meeting room by snapping the door!

    CELINE DION

First, she asks for a private jet and 75 five stars hotel rooms for the 148 members of her team (Production, dancers, musicians, etc). Then she requires a Presidential Suite for her family, a spacious lodge in which the temperature must be at a constant 22 ° C, a fixed telephone line in her dressing room to call abroad at all times. She also requires to constantly be surrounded by a professionnal dentist, a voice and throat specialist, and her physiotherapist.

For her son René-Charles, a nanny and personnal assistant that have to be with him 24h/7. Also 11 bodyguards were hired to ensure the Star's security.

  • FAN FLASH

The NKOTB have been a true Love story since I was 11 years old and will be until the end of my life.
My name is Nassima, I’m 29 years old and have been a fan since 1990.

How I got to know the group ?
I will remember this all my life.

On a beautiful summer day, sitting in the lounge with my sister and my big brother, we were watching clips on TV.
That’s when a group of 5 boys that I had never seen before appeared on the screen ... my first reaction was to say, "What are these the boys'?

But in the bottom of my heart I felt a strange sensation .. but as I’ve always been shy about sharing my true emotions , the best way for me to hide my emotions was to say the opposite of what I thought.
A few months later the phenomenon that was the New kids on the block took over the world and especially my heart.
I started to save my candy money to buy magazines, there were so much that I didn’t purchase any candy for a very long time ...

I started to have a sacred collection of posters that i would put up one after the other on the walls of my room until it no longer had a single piece of wall visible up to the ceiling.
Then for my birthday, all my relatives knew that the only way to make me happy was to get me NKOTB memorablia.
I have accumulated tapes, vhs, jackets, T-shirts, pins, badges ...
There is so much to say that one book would not be sufficient for tell it all.

A few years later at the age of 14 years, I found out by one of my penpals and fans that NKOTB would be the virgin store on the Champs Elysees in Paris for a signing ...

"I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO GO .. dad Mom please let me go there, it’s my biggest dream "
They saw how much I was obsessed by them. They accepted to let me go ...

The D-Day, with my best friend, we left and got there early. We saw masses of fans coming from all parts of France. The street was full of people. The doors were finally opened to let us enter our paradise. That’s where our 5 guys were waiting ... sitting behind a table.
JON DANNY DONNIE JORDAN AND JOEY

We were the fourth to go up to them,
with eyes wide open, overwhelmed by emotion and euphoria, I walked up to them.
    My dream was happening.
I extended a hand to each of them .. they all raised and gave me a kiss!
    One in front of Joey,
he lowered his eyes, did not pay attention to me, was too busy signing my autograph.
I faced him shy and sad at once ..
and there as if he had seen my feelings, he looked up at me and gave a smile that I will never forget.
The NKOTB helped me without knowing overcome many hardships, to feel better in my skin ..
In a few ways I consider them as members of my family
I never stopped loving them .. ever.

Wether it is as a singer, a songwriter or an actor, Joey McIntyre, the youngest member of the group, found his way through the Entertainement business. Today, at 35, married for a few years and father of a young little boy born in november 2007 named Griffin Thomas, Joey is no longer the little “Joey Joe” from back then. He has grown up into a beautiful man.

For this first issue of the Fanzine, I got interested in knowing what were the reasons Joe became some fans’ favorite and why he still is today. Fans from around the world agreed to write about their experience as Joe fans.

    *************************************************************

    Elena , spain

“I have an older brother who loves music and in 1988, when the album “Hangin’ Tough” was at the top, he bought it. He was so excited about it. I was 16 at the time and when I go the tape, the first one i saw on the insert was Joe. He was such a cute young boy.

We put on the tape to listen to it. My brother told me Joe was the leading singer on “Please don’t go girl” and I started to really like him and to look for every magazines and news papers that he was in, but couldn’t find anything in the city i lived in back then (Navojoa Sonora), so i cherished my tape and the insert dearly as it was sacred.

As the months went by, i managed to start off a scrapbook of every small pieces from Bop magazines issues and posters i could get my hands on. At the time, my city only got one copy of the magazine every month and sometimes another fan would get her hands on it before i could and that would make me sad. I was so in love with Joe’s deep baby blue eyes.

When the album “Step by Step” came out, i went crazy watching the home video over and over and putting it on “Pause” all the time. I was the only fan in my town, as i found out the other fan who bought the only copy of Bop that came to my city bought it for articles on the tv show “Saved by the bell”.

My love for the band has never changed, despite all the crazy rumors about them. I never moved on to another group or idol. The New kids were always my heart and soul. Joe was my favorite because he seemed to me like the sweetest boy on earth.

I come from a very poor family and I had to work hard to save up my money to buy “Face the music” when it came out and when the group splitted up, it was a but hard for me to follow everyone’s solo or movie carreers financially, so I only followed Joe’s as he was my favorite.”

    Aline (29), Brasil

"When I saw Joe for the first time it was in the video for Please Don't Go Girl. I used to listen to the song on the radio and loved it. But when I saw the video and five good looking guys in it... i went insane! Joe's blue eyes bewitched me. I was totally enchanted by that young guy. I couldn't take him off my mind. I became a dedicated fan and never did they get off my head and mind. And I never stopped dreaming of them! Joe was so perfect for me. Even not being perfect, I could find in him the man of my dreams! He is so sweet and charming! So intelligent and funny! I love him from the bottom of my heart and I want to see him happy! And for me it's great to say I'm happy to see him married and a proud father. Because people used to be worried about me. They thought that if Joe ever got married I would get depressed or someting like that. I couldn't imagine when I was younger that Joe could get married, but when I got older, I realized that he needs to be happy with a nice woman. I could get over it. I could be strong! And myself... well, I'm still single. I spent years of my life thinking only of Joe and there wasn't any space for anyone else in my life. Today I'm still looking for the right man for me and I hope he can be as good as Joe is.
Joe is so special in my life, he is part of my life and will always be! He taught me how to dream and how to believe in my dreams and if I'm looking for a bettter life it's because I have a deal with myself to be strong and get my goal that is to meet the NKOTB. It will be great to get near them. All the happiness he gave me, his smiles, his looks, his jokes, his talents, his energy, his good vibrations, everything from him makes me happy! I was blessed with Joe in my life."

    Ramona (29), The Netherlands

“Let me start by saying what is not attractive about Joe, NOTHING !. The man is just perfect. I first heard about the New Kids when I was 11 years of age. My eyes caught Joey right away. I immediatly thought “Is he real ? He is so adorable”. It wasn’t just because he had blue eyes (we have a lot of that here), but the way he acted, so natural and funny, he cracked me up and he still does. Until now, he is still my favorite New Kid. He is funny and so down to earth. I saw him in concert back in 1991 in Rotterdam and he was standing like 3 inches from me. I totally fell in love with him. The way he moves, he talks and acts, you just gotta love the man.

18 years later, I am married to a wonderful man (no kids yet), but I’m still sooo in love with Joe. That man has got it. Whatever that may be ... LOVE YOU JOE. FOREVER !”

    Faiza (32), Aubervilliers, France

“The first time I heard the New kids it was on the radio. “Please don’t go girl” was playing. I was 13 years old and immediatly fell crazy in love with Joe’s voice and when I first saw his baby face, i melted. This is how and why he became my fave. His voice still gives me goosebumps today.”

Rania (24), Val de Marne, France

“I’ve been a Joey fan ever since I was introduced to the New kids, which means early 90’s (i was too young before that). I can’t really remember why I felt for him. The minute I saw their video “Please don’t go girl”, I knew he would be my favorite. What attracted me to him ? His baby blue eyes, his smile, his voice, his sense of humor. I love that in a man. I find that Joey has gotten even more handsome as he grew up, though I always thought he was cute. I envy his wife J “

    Sally (31), Calgary, Canada

”It all began many moons ago - 1989 to be exact. I was living in the UK and one night my friends and I went to a teen nightclub. They played Hangin' Tough and from that point I was hooked on the band. By mid 1990 I had moved back to Canada and I was completely infatuated with the New Kids. I bought any magazine I could get my hands on with them in it and recorded anything on TV that had a chance of them being on. I spent the entire summer wanting to know anything I could about them.

It was during that summer that I really started liking Joe. He was the closest to me in age and really came off as having a super sense of humor which, for me , is one of the most attractive qualities a guy can possess. It would also be stupid of me to deny that the guy was hot. Great hair and the baby blues!!

In fall of 1990 (Halloween I think) the New Kids came to Calgary. I got seats 1st row on the balcony and it was such a great time. The way they played to the crowd was phenomenal and I still remember the show like it was yesterday. That was my first and last New Kids concert.

I was still enthralled with them right up until the split after Face the Music came out. At that point I moved on, got married etc. but I was always a big fan and never denied it. My guy friends even put on a LipSync of "The Right Stuff" for me at my wedding!! I am also proud to say that I really enjoyed keeping up with Joe's solo ventures. Besides his solo music projects, I absloutely could not get enough of the guy on Boston Public. It is really a credit to him that he can be so diversified in his talents!

I really cannot wait until this fall. I will be seeing them for the first time in 18 years in Montreal and then hope to catch them again once they come out West!”

    Diane (29), Toronto, Canada

“I instantly became a joe fan back when I was 10 years old and I first heard Please Don't Go Girl on the radio. His voice just captivated me....it was so sweet! I had to find out more about "NKOTB" and when I first seen them, it was "little joe" who I developed my first crush on. What attracted me to him besides his singing talent was his stunning blue eyes and adorable curls. I love his passion for entertaining and his charisma. I also find him to be hilarious...he has an amazing and fun sense of humour! I also think I liked him because I could relate to him in terms of age. Although he was still much older than me, he looked younger and the other guys just seemed so much older in my eyes. My bedroom walls were plastered with his photos and I had everything nkotb/joe related. I remember getting my joey doll for christmas and I still have it! As I got older I still adored Joe and when nkotb parted ways it was definitely heartbreaking. I have never stopped being a joe/nkotb fan and have been one for 19 years (soon going on 20)! So of course I was estatic when he returned as a solo artist and supported his career as a singer/actor. I have all his cd's and still love his voice as it matured. When I was a little girl all I could dream about was meeting joe. Well my dream did come true, even if it took 14 years!!! Well worth the wait. I met him at a taping of the Mike Bullard show in Toronto and he was nice enough to autograph the 2 cd's he had out at that time. I am so glad nkotb is back and looking forward to making new memories. I recently went to the Kiss 108 concert in Boston and it was amazing. I am eagarly awaiting to attend their reunion concert in Toronto and have 5star VIP for the New Jersey one. Needless to say....I am sooooooooooooooo EXCITED about meeting Joe again. All I want now is a photo with him. I seen him at a taping of Much on Demand and came very close to getting a picture with him during the commerical break, but the host wouldn't allow it. So having a photo would be great and a hug if that isn't too much to ask! =)”

    Sabrina (27), Paris, France

If I remember well, it was my cousin whom introduced me to the group. She was a lot older than I was. I think she was 16 back then and I was only 9. I had gone to her place and she had me watch some of the New Kids videos and showed me all the magazines she had bought with tons of posters of the guys. I totally fell for Joe’s eyes. He was clearly my favorite one. After that, i became a fan myself and i started bringing all the magazines I bought to school to show my friends. They were all lusting over Jordan and I couldn’t understand it. For me, Joe was the most beautiful one J “

    Kelly (34), Sydney, Australia

Hi my name is Kellie a.k.a aussieanegl08,Im 34 yrs old and Im from Sydney,Australia.I have been a Joey Mcintyre fan since I first seen "The Right Stuff" on tv in 1989.I remember I was 14 yrs old, sitting at my best friends house waiting to go out shopping (as teenagers do),while I was waiting, watching tv,the song came on,I was in total awe of these 5 boys dancing and singing this catchy song,I remember noticing the "Little One",he was the cutest guy and had a beautiful smile.
I will never forget that day,as I ran all the way home to tell my mum.The following weekend,I discovered that this group was known as "New Kids On The Block"I waited patiently every week for the music shows to come on,just so i could get a glimpse of the "Little Cute Guy".

Time went by and "I'll Be Loving You Forever" was released here in Australia,I rushed out and brought it on record.I even put the record sleeve on my wall,so i could look at the Cute Guy,I now knew as Joey Mcintyre every day and night.
When I was at this stage in my life,I had my very first boyfriend,we didnt last long (teenagers rarely do),my mum pointed out to me that my first bf looked exactly like "Joey Joe" I was totally gutted, after all it was me that "dumped him".

Many years went by,more songs and new albums were to come from NKOTB,in 1994,NKOTB split up and I was totally devastated. In 1999,I was watching a music show and along comes the host to announce a new song by Joey Mcintyre,it was called "Stay The Same".Joe was even at a local shopping centre signing copies of the single, again I was gutted as I was 7 months pregnant with my 4th little girl and couldnt make the trip.
That was the last I heard of "Joey Mcintyre" as we didnt get much coverage here in Australia,Thanks to the internet thou I could follow his career as much as possible
Fast forward to 2008,I cant contain my excitement,NKOTB are back and the legion of fans around the world untie once again.

Funnily enough, the daughter I was pregnant with in 1999,today in 2008 if you ask her which is her fav new kid.....her answer will be "JOE"

What was it that i found so fascinating about "Joe" I really cant explain, all i know is what did "it" for me.................

The blue eyes, the curly hair, the amazing voice and that beautiful smile"

Known for his beautiful voice and his distinctive falsetto, Jordan Knight, who sang lead in a lot of New Kids’ songs, is now, at 38, an accomplished singer and songwriter. He went on to start a solo career when the New Kids disbanded in 1994 and released 2 albums, 1 remix album and 1 EP. Jordan who was named one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world in 1990, has today grown into a very handsome man who still has his fans’ heart skip a beat at the meer sight of him.

For this first issue of the Fanzine, I got interested in knowing what were the reasons Jordan became some fans’ favorite and why he still is today. Fans from around the world agreed to write about their experience as Jordan fans.

    ***********************************************************************
    Marie (34), Montreal, Canada

The summer of 1989 was a summer I will remember all my life. I was 15 years (would be turning 16 that next fall) and was on vacation in Cape Cod, Massachussets with my family (parents, brothers, sister, aunt, uncle and cousins). That afternoon, everyone had gone down to the beach except for me. I was feeling a bit under the weather that day so I decided to stay in our condo and get some rest. I layed in my bed and started to watch some tv. I put it on on MTV and that’s when i saw him. He just appeared on the screen singing the first notes of “I’ll be loving you (forever)” live. I didn’t even notice the 4 other guys around him at first. I had eyes only for that tall dark brown hair guy and ears for his beautiful voice. I had been hit by the Jordan Knight and New Kids on the block storm. Once i got back home to Montreal a few days later, i ran to my favorite record store to try and find their album “Hangin’ Tough” which to my surprise did I not only find but it was in a huge display just next to the cashier. I quickly brought my tape home and started to listen to it over and over.

I was under the New kids spell. The group wasn’t much known around here yet. I had my friends listen to my tape and they all quickly purchased their own copies. A few months later, it was new Kids hysteria in Quebec and they came twice to Montreal for concerts over the next year (1990). Of course, I was there both times.

So what attracted me to Jordan ? I guess it was his voice, his intense and deep look, his personality, the way he looked, his shyness. I guess the whole package was and is still just really attractive to me.

19 years later, I am still a fan and Jordan still has the power to make me melt, i can’t help it. 2 years ago, i had the chance to see him live here in Montreal on one of his solo tours and i was standing there in the 2nd row and to see him there just inches away from me, what a pleasure it was. I will have the chance to meet him and the other New kids on their reunion tour’s stop here in Montreal in September. I have VIP tickets to that show and I must admit that even though I’m really excited, i’m also very nervous about meeting Jordan and getting a chance to talk to him. What in the hell am i going to say to him ? When I met Jonathan and Danny a few years ago in Boston (2003), it was easy. Both of them were the first to speak to me, so I only had to reply to them and the conversation started from there. For Jordan I have a feeling it will be very different. He seems to be as comfortable with one on one conversations as I am. It’ll be a fun time Cligne I guess I have 4 months to learn to get over my shyness and get myself a new personnality J (just kidding).

    Delphine (29), Cahors, France

I was introduced to the New kids when i was a teenager and I immediately fell for Jordan. I can’t remember where i heard them for the first time, but I did get all of their albums. Why jordan ? For his voice of an angel, his charisma, his smile, his sweetness and let’s not forget he his goodlooking. I think that once you’re a fan, you’re a fan for life. I remember my room walls being covered poster of the guys. With my bestfriend who was also a fan we would spend our evenings watching their videos and concerts on tv, dancing and singning. I just have good memories from that time.

    Lola (31 ans), Toulouse, France

One day my uncle came to my place and told me « Here listen to this » handing me a tape. I was 14. He made me listen to « Step by Step. It was in 1991 and I totally loved it. I immediatly asked my uncle who it was and he told me New kids on the block. He went to get the album’s cover and I had this strange feeling inside of me and immediatly told myself that i loved them. Seeing Jordan, my heart went boom. 2 days later, back at home, i saw them on M6 channel. The video to « Step by step » was on and it only confirmed my 1st impression et over the next few years i bought everything about them and I never stopped.

What made me fall for Jordan are, his charm, his pretty face, to me he’s the best. He is in my heart and he will always ben there. I admire him, I love him. He is my drug, my medecine when i feel down, just one look at his face and I’m and running again. I always have a picture of him on me.

But realistically, i know he’s just a fantasy. I am married, but will do everything in my power to meet him one day. I will never let go of my dream.

    Lisia (30), Porto Alegre, Brasil

It all started on January 22nd, 1991. I live in Brazil and we were having, at that time, the Rock in Rio II music festival. The NK were playing that night and I was gonna watch their concert on TV just to tape Tonight, the only song of theirs that I liked - yes, I wasn't a fan until then. But then, I saw Jordan getting on stage wearing a red t-shirt, and mind you that red is one of my favorite colors, and... Well, the rest is history! hehe I got completely insane for the NK, made my mom buy whatever she could find about them! My dad gave me all the records, I bought posters… Although I liked the group as a whole, Jordan was always my fave above all, his voice, his moves, his lips… He was definitely part of my teen fantasies, I even dated a boy because he looked like Jordan!

Well, I was 14 years old back then. A few years later, they disbanded and my heart was crushed, but I always had faith that Jordan would return, since he was so talented and had so much potential. In 1997, when he started on the works of returning to the music business, I got very excited and started counting the days until he released his album. The day came two years later, on May 25th, 1999. My best friend and I went all the way to NY just to be present at the release of his first solo album, and even though I wasn’t able to say a word to him, so nervous I was, it was worth every minute! He signed my CD, I took some pics of him and held his hand and this memory will never be erased from my mind.

When we returned to Brazil, we started thinking about creating a site to honor him and his new music. We did it and in March 2003, our site became The Official Jordan Knight Brasil Website, and for three years more, we represented him officially in our country. Unfortunately, he kind of took a break from his career and personal projects made it impossible for us to continue running the website, but we had so much support from the fans all over the world that, once again, it was all worthwhile!

Now, the NK is back, at least for a while. I’m not the girl I used to be, with hopes and dreams and expectations about meeting them and such things, but I wish them all the best this life can give them, and I really hope Jordan gets the taste for performing and recording again, ‘cause he was my first music idol and will always have a special place in my heart. Like the saying says, loves come and go, but the first will always be the first, and that’s where Jordan figures in my life: my first boyband crush! Cligne

I remember graduating from the 5th grade and having a sleep over at my cousin's house. Graduation was on a Friday.... Saturday came, we were cleaning her apartment and I was in the kitchen doing the dishes. So she decides to put on this song and I am like who in the world are you listening to? She says New Kids On The Block (I get goose bumps remembering this). She begins to teach me the Right Stuff dance LOL LOL. She then proceeds to tell me their names and her favorite which is Joe. That night we see them at the Apollo Show and of course they were singing The Right Stuff and I completely became a full blown fan! I fell in love with Jordan and his legs flying all over the damn place and his hair which never moved! I was 12 years old and I swear he made my damn heart jump! From that day on I never stopped being an NKOTB fan, I am 30 now and I still get all giddy when I hear them or see them... I love them and I am so happy I was a part of that generation that yelled from the top of their lungs trying to express the love and lust for them!!!!!!

I LOVE JORDAN!!!!!! I LOVE NKOTB!!!!

i first saw the guys on a show called"the DJ KAT SHOW"back in 1988 when i was 14 years old,id always loved music but not any one artist.i was instantly hooked but at the time they were relatively unknown in the uk.i would tell my friends about them but they shrugged it off as a passing phase, until they appeared on the "smash hits poll winners party"in 1989,from then on most of my friends were also hooked.my favorite is jordan and i can only say i was immediately smitten.i got to see them 4 times in concert(twice at wembley arena and twice in the birmingham nec).when they split i was absolutely gutted and cried a lot.so when i found out they were getting back together i was truly overwhelmed, and i can honestly say im a much happier person these days

I’ve been a New kids fans since I was 5 years old. In the beginning I was infatuated with Donnie (that is whole other story), but I quickly saw that Jordan was also cool. I think it was around Xmas 1990. Santa had brough me a copy of “Hangin’ Tough Live”. From the moment I saw Jordan walking around the stage in his Batman jacket, I was sold. When I think about it, I think it is really that vest that got me to notice him, but I have come to know the real artist in Jordan.

When I was a kid, i sang in a chuch choir and I never got around to attend these high notes Jordan seems to be hitting so easily and is able to keep for so long. I am always amazed at how high the notes he hits are.

Since they announced their return, I have found myself a new admiration in Jordan. He seems so down-to-heart and amazing et he is as talented as the other 4 members of the group.
